The Story Behind “Barack”

The idea of giving names came from God just as what is written in the book of Genesis 2:19

“And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.”

It is clear that it was God’s will that Adam named or gave names to the different kinds of animal life which were with him in the garden. And we can presume how intelligent Adam was when he was able to name all those animals that were created by God. However, we are not informed about the standard or the rule that Adam used in naming such creatures but there are other scriptures that tell us what’s in a name.

I felt upset when while I was watching the convention of the democrats on television, and one said, “the funny name of Obama”, referring to Barack Obama. According to that speaker, the name Barack is a funny name. I’m reminded of people’s ignorance of the scriptures. If only people have known the Bible, they will not say such a thing as “funny name of Obama.” In fact, Biblically speaking, the name Barack is not a funny name. It is a serious name and I will tell you about that later. I just want to lay the basis of why I’m discussing this topic. This is not to disgrace anybody but to share knowledge from the scriptures about the naming of names, of things, creatures, individuals, and the like.

The Hebrew tradition or custom of naming people is what I regard as the wisest standard of giving names. They name people by their characteristics, by their qualities and sometimes, according to the circumstances of their birth or conception. The name Isaac, for example, does not spell the qualities or the characteristics of Isaac, the son of Abraham, but it tells us of the circumstance surrounding the conception of Isaac. Isaac means “laughter” in Hebrew language. It implies that the name Isaac spells “happiness.” When the person of Isaac was mentioned by the angel to his father Abraham, his mother Sarah laughed, Genesis 18:12; 21:6-7

“Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.”

Thus, the word Isaac means laughter or something funny. But I’m sure the name Barack is not funny. The name of Isaac spells fun or joy, laughter. The name Esau on the other hand, defines the characteristic or the special characteristics of the person’s being. Esau means “hairy.” Genesis 25:25 reads –

“And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.”

It is just like the fruit “rambutan.” It was named rambutan because the name “rambut” means hair – in Indonesia. It’s the kind of fruit that looks hairy, that’s why it’s called rambutan. Esau had a hairy body that’s why when his twin brother Jacob was asking the blessing of their father Isaac, the blessing for the firstborn, Jacob thought of disguising himself as Esau. He wore on his arms the skin of a hairy animal to make it appear that he was Esau, the real firstborn. The verses in Chapter 27 of Genesis tell us this.

The name “Mary” means beautiful in Hebrew. No wonder the mother of Jesus Christ is called Mary because she’s a beautiful lady. It’s no wonder also that Mary from Magdala was called Mary because she’s portrayed in the Bible as an evil woman. She is evil maybe because she works like a prostitute although the Bible does not tells us that she’s a prostitute. Nevertheless, she was evil before knowing the Lord Jesus Christ. Luke 8:2 says

“And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,”

So by these examples, we know that there is something in a name, the Hebrew way and God’s way. The Lord Jesus Christ also in the New Testament has used names to indicate the special characteristics of a person. He called the two apostles “Boanerges”, which means “the suns of thunder”. Let us read the verse in Mark 3:17

“And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:”

So it is clear that there is something in a name. Very much like the name he gave to Peter when he commissioned him to be one of the apostles of the 1st century church, Matthew 16:17

“And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”

The original name was Simon Bar-Jona. And in Matthew 16:18

“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter….”

He did not use the original name given by the parents of Simon. The father’s name of Simon is Jona that’s why Simon was called Simon Bar-Jona. “Bar” means son. He was not called anymore by the Lord Jesus Christ as Simon Bar-Jona but Peter, Simon Peter. “I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter.…”, or “Petros” the masculine for stone, a small rock. “And upon this rock…” he said, [In Greek it is “petra” which is different from “petros” which is the name of Peter.] “I will build my church”. This is where the Catholic Church was misled. They presume that petros is the rock on which the church was built but upon a close study of the Greek word used, it was not petros but petra, the feminine of the word which means a very big rock, a boulder, a strong foundation. Because petros is a stone or small rock or a cliff, it cannot be used as a foundation; therefore, Peter was never the foundation of the church. In fact, he was founded on the foundation itself and that foundation is the Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:20 says –

“And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;”

The prophets and the apostles were built upon the foundation. And the foundation is not Peter because he is one of the apostles. The apostles were built upon the foundation, including Peter himself. And the foundation is the Lord Jesus Christ which is the real petra or the real rock or boulder of rock as the foundation the church. To prove that, let us read I Timothy 3:15-16

“But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”

It is clear that the house of God, which is the church of the living God, is the pillar and foundation of the truth. And what is that pillar and foundation of the truth? “Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness…” You see, the foundation of the truth is divine, “….great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh….”, so this is not Peter.

The foundation of the truth is called God. Which God? “….great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh….”, so he is a God manifest in the flesh, “….preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory”, that is the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ is the foundation of the real true church in the Bible. The word petros was mistakenly interpreted by the Catholic Church to be the foundation and according to them that was Peter. It’s not true. Peter can never be a foundation because he is a man. No man can withstand the weight and responsibility of the true church in the Bible. That man or foundation will break. Let us read in the book of Psalms 146:3 –

“Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.”

And in Jeremiah 17:5 it says –

“Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.”

So it’s clear that man cannot be a foundation of such an entity as great as the church which was meant by God to exist forever. According to Matthew 16:18

“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

And in Ephesians 3:10-11

“To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:”

The church will be the instrument of God in making manifest the manifold wisdom of God according to his eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord. So the church was meant by God to stay and exist forever. The name Peter or Petros can not be the true foundation of the true church, which God guaranteed to exist forever; proving that there really is something in a name. A name sometimes means everything in it. In the Proverbs 22:1

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.”

It is better to choose a better name, a good name than riches. Imagine everything that riches can buy cannot be compared to the beauty and honor that is in a name. Very much like the name of the Almighty God as mentioned in Matthew 6:9 –

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”

God made His name an object of worship, something that must be respected and bowed down to by a person who fears God. In fact, the 3rd commandment says that we shall not use the name of the Lord our God in vain if we are true Christians. Exodus 20:7 says

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”

He will not hold guiltless anybody who will use his name in vain. The name of God is not only an object of worship. It magnifies everything that is of God, Psalms 138:2 reads

I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”

The word angel, spoken alone, is nothing. It may mean harm or it may mean evil. But if you attach the name of God, “angel of God,” it is magnified, it is great, it means holy. Angel of God because there are angels of satan. Just like the word, “word”. The “Word” alone is nothing. It can be a word of someone who is foolish. But if you attach to it the name of God, “word of God,” it is magnified, it is great, it has power in it. Hebrews 4:12 says –

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

So it is clear that the name of God magnifies the things attached to it. Just like the word “spirit.” Not any spirit is great, there are evil spirits. But if you say “spirit of God,” it’s something that we must respect, we must worship, because the spirit of God is the Holy Spirit. So the name of God does not just mean something great but in it are so many things wherein we owe respect, obedience, veneration and fear.

Let us go back to the name Barack. As I have said earlier, Barack is not a funny name. It is a serious name. I’m sorry for that person who said that Barack is funny, that the name of Barack Obama is a funny name. What she or he meant is not the name Obama but Barack. Barak in the Bible is a serious man, a great fighter for the cause of justice in Israel. Let us read in Hebrews 11:32-34 (Revised Standard Version)

“And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets – who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.”

If you notice the verses, the Apostle Paul said that he has no more time and space for lengthy discussions. But he can’t help mentioning the name of Barak. Who is this Barak whom he mentioned in line with Samson and the others of the great men of the Old Testament? In Chapter 4 of the Book of Judges, we will learn that Barak is a captain in Israel who helped a great woman to judge Israel when there were no more men to do the job.

But let me add to you some information about this. Within God’s people, it is not a very good thing to notice that the leader is a woman. I’m not against any woman leader of any country now except in my country. There are great women, they have led their people for so many years but no corruption was heard among them. There are women in the truest sense of the word. Women are shy, truthful, faithful, and honest. These are the women like Queen Elisabeth II, the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom, a very respectable woman, a woman who has maintained the integrity of her kingdom up to now. Great Britain is respected all over the world. There was once a Margaret Thatcher, who, even after her retirement, was not spoken of evil by her constituents. There was also one great Bhutto, very much loved by her countrymen. Are you asking me about our President? The name is very much sweet sounding – Gloria, but what is in that name is not glorious to a lot of Filipinos.

Deborah was a courageous woman during a time when Israel had no man judges or no man judge that fitted or that qualified to judge Israel. And as I’ve said it is something not very good to know. Just for your added information, it is God’s will that His people be led by a man. The book of I Kings 9:5 says so –

“Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel forever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.”

It’s clear that the promise to David is, there will not lack or fail him a man to rule on the throne of Israel. So when there was no more man that qualified for the position of leading the people of God, it’s something not very sweet sounding. Yet, Deborah, by her might and courage, judged Israel. But it was not really Deborah that acted as the leader of the people of God. There was a great man behind her that has done the salvation of the people of Israel. That was the one man mentioned by the Apostle Paul in Chapter 11 of the Book of Hebrews.

You will notice that the Apostle Paul did not even mention the name of Deborah. It was Barak that was mentioned. So Barak was a great, serious man. He’s a man able to respect somebody like Deborah even though he was fighting and that Deborah had taken the honor of being judge to Israel.

Barak is a man of humility. He did not in any manner grab the honor of being the judge to the people of Israel. Barak is a man of honor, a man of dignity. I do not know the Democrat Presidential candidate of the U.S.A. He’s very popular. In fact, I was convinced by the speech, not of Barak, but by his wife. I was convinced by the speech of the former President Clinton, not by Barak. Only the Americans know Barak. But whoever Barak maybe, I would say that the name Barak is not a funny name. It’s a serious name and maybe, to those Americans saying that the name Barak is funny, a little review of the scriptures will reveal to them and tell them that the name Barak is not a funny name. I hope I have shared a little knowledge with this article.

Sincerely in Christ,

Brother Eli Soriano

  1. Wow! Simply Wow!

Thanks be to God that there is a preacher who has a true and deep understanding of the Holy Scriptures! So lucky to have found this man, whom I believe, has a better name than any Barack in our time ..

  2. Awesome post. Nowadays, names have been “ridiculed” by many people. Parents naming their babies based on their own enjoined names. They name their babies with references to entertainment, sports, and whatnot (even my name was taken from pop culture. however, i’m not complaining because it’s a fantastic name in my opinion). They name them without keeping in mind that the child will bare that name for the rest of his/her life. It is very sad.

I saw this movie, Pulp Fiction, there was a scene that always stuck in my mind. Butch just came from a boxing match and immediately jumped on a cab he hailed. The female cab driver was conversing with him and asked what his name means. Without hesitation, Butch said, “My name doesn’t mean anything, this is America”.

Now, clearly, this is something that the modern Filipino have inherited from that culture. Names doesn’t mean a thing anymore.

  3. Yes, the current generation are really after the good sounding words that will titilate their ears, no matter what in the words will be. Review the present music craze that had the best appeal to the ears of the present generation…the metallic and awful noise that are considered as music? Those were indeed NOISES and yet very entertaining to the current generation’s ears!

So when they hear meaningful music, not a mere sound or noise it is “bakya” to them. Why, because they dont have anymore the what we called the “TASTE” or deep inside their hearts they can no longer determine what is GOOD because their hearts are full of SADNESS as exemplified by their preference…the NOISE that they called music.

So if Barak will sound like a NOISE to them, it will be an acceptable good sounding name!

  4. May the PEACE and BLESSINGS of the ALMIGHTY GOD be upon you Bro Eli, Bro Daniel, brethrens in the true CHURCH OF GOD, and fellow bloggers.
the story behind the name Barak is a very timely and educational topic. Bro Eli’s discussion is not a political endorsement for the Democratic Presidential candidate yet could very well affect the November election. Many bible-reading Americans, who are not aware of the biblical passage about the name Barak like me, might be inclined to vote for the energetic, young, and talented Barak Obama. I am sure Obama’s camp are happy with Bro Eli’s topic. The proof that Bro Eli is unequalled about almost anything in the bible. We are very proud of you and will always be with you Bro Eli.

  5. Wow! Great! I hope David Axelrod will read this article so that he will have an idea how to retract the attack of their opponent. According to the survey, one of the reasons Americans are hesitant to support Obama because of the black propaganda that his name is funny and its sounds like a terrorist name. I hope this will served as an eye-opener, specially that the US presidential election is very near. I’m not campaigning for Obama, my only point is, it is unfair to anybody, if you will not vote for him or her just because of ignorance and pandemic paranoia. Imagine, through reading the bible, you will resolved the main issues regarding a presidential candidate bearing a unique name but definitely not a funny name. Thanks be to God because Bro. Eli is there to explain to us about this issue according to the bible.

  6. What’s in a Name?! A Whole Lot!!!
It takes a lot of arguments/disputes from both sides of a couple to come up w/ their child’s name! Then, a stranger comes telling them his name is funny?!! INSENSATE!!! more so if the name is BIBLICAL!!!! FOOL!!!
We must be careful w/ what we say, especially now, that their is a person whose name is BRO. ELI SORIANO.
HE THAT REFRAINETH HIS LIPS IS WISE!!!..

  7. I used to be proud of my name, Alexander.  My father in his fascination with history and greek mythology gave me the name wishing that I will be great too someday, haha.  When God called me into His church however,  I learned that such name figured in the scriptures as that of a nasty guy given to the devil, poor me!
They say that once you acquired a green card in the US and assume the citizenship of that country you are given the option to select another name.
In like manner would it displease God, Brod Eli, if after we are baptized into the Church of God we can assume a name of our choice (with your approval of course) which we can use among us brethren only?

    Best regards…

  8. Superb!!!

Thanks be to God for sharing a very impressive article Bro. Eli…you are truly a God sent to us! I am so blessed to have found a rare but precious man like you 1

  9. Another unfolded truth delighted my grateful heart…
It was good to know the truest sense upon giving name. What I liked most about in this article is that the explanation of Brother Eli that things tagged along the name of our God gives value or magnificence to it.

  10. The study of personal names of people is called anthroponomastics (which is a branch of onomastics).

In the Bible, giving names are not insignificant.

    Now, about names:

BARACK = in Arabic means “BLESSED”

BARAK = in Hebrew means “LIGHTNING”

ELISEO (Tagalog of Elisha) = in Hebrew theophory means “MY GOD IS SALVATION” or “SALVATION OF GOD”

ELI = in Hebrew may mean “MY GOD”

Now I’m thinking, how about this name:

ERAÑO = the son of the founding father of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) Felix Manalo, has a very unusual name.

They say it’s derived from the flipped word “NEW ERA”.

Well, to me it sounds more like, uhmm, “ERRONEOUS”.🙂

Or maybe it has some roots from the Greek word “ERAN” which means “TO LOVE, TO DESIRE”.

Perhaps the Greek word “EROS” which means “SEXUAL LOVE” is the more appropriate reference.

Well, I really can’t tell. The name has no biblical reference at all.🙂

  11. @NINO SANDIL >

    The next interesting question is:

Biblically speaking, which is a more serious name: “Barack” or “John”?

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .

    how about, “Eliseo” or “Eraño”😀

  12. Excellent explanation from the most sensible preacher of our time!!!
God has always shown the greatness of His love to His people as He has given them the understanding of His words through His messenger. A God given gift that we all must treasure in our lives, that is the understanding of His words that will save humanity from damnation. Thanks be unto God for all His unspeakable gifts!!!
God bless you always Brother Eli!

  13. A humble ending to a very informative blog, ” I hope I have shared a little knowledge with this article”, Brother Eli is again reaching out to us, Christians, to be humble in every way we can. This is the true symbol of a man who does not realize how great the impact of his statement to the reader.

    Thanks be to God!

  14. Amen Bro. Eli,
This blog will teach many people who get easily laugh and humilate in one person’s name. Because of their ignorances in the word of God in the bible, they easily mocked a person like Barak Obama. I heard that not all but many white americans are racist, thats why they dönt like Obama because he has a black race in his blood.
Very Intelligent Blog. I hope Mr McCain will read this blog.
For me the name ‘Bro Eli’ means ‘A Man Of God’

  15. When I was taking English As A Second Language class, my teacher opened up a topic regarding Barrack. When she was watching the news, she said that everytime Barrack is asked regarding what he is going to do about the future or the country, he have nothing to say but, “I will change..I will change…I will change.” I have nothing against my teacher regarding her in teaching the english language. She’s strict and as a matter of fact, I do miss her class and my classmates. She didn’t do me a favor, but she did the right thing to say when I told her that I can not make it every wednesday night because I have to attend a prayer meeting and also on friday because of the assembly. She goes, “If it’s for God, you don’t have to ask me.” That means I don’t need to get her permission whenever it’s about God, which I know I won’t get the same answer to my other teachers. However, what I didn’t like about her is that she is against Barrack to be a president (she is caucasian). People in the United States and even my own friends think that he shouldn’t be a president. It sounds to me that they’re saying that he isn’t that educated enough to lead the country. I am against them. I know in my heart at that moment I want Barrack to be given a chance. Who are you going to give the authority to? To someone who already is powerful?, educated? (on earth), and common (white)?!? Being a christian, for me, if people think that he can not do anything why not give Barrack a chance to lead the country? If someone like barrack becomes president knowing that he is weak or uneducated and he can not do anything. Why not let the power of the hands of God Almighty do the things that Barrack can not do? Let God do the wonders! See someone uneducated, humbled, and belittled by people do the wonders of God. See, how the first half African American lead the people of United States by the Help, Mercy, and Power of the ALMIGHTY. Without God he can not do anything, but with God’s mercy we might just be surprised what he can do because of God. Those kind of African American people will have the guidance of the Creator, the God Father Almighty, for most of them are kind and they have goodness in their hearts. They are beautiful people! All of the peculiar people of God are!!! Thanks be to God for all of His unspeakable gifts and to God be the Glory!!!

  16. what’s in a name?!? Jacqueline Jose and Jacqueline Magno, put them together Miss Jacqueline Jose Magno, in short, KULENG. The grown-ups said that when I was young my playmates could not pronounce my name right, so instead of que-lin they called me KU-LENG Uleng. =) thanks be to God!

  17. If Mr. Barack Obama does gets elected as President of the United States of America, we have one thing to cherish about him, that in spite of all the unfair and biased attack on the name “Barack”, we can “HOPE” and “PRAY” that he lives up to the Biblical essence or meaning of that name; a very admirable character of one of God’s chosen leader whose name is written in the Bible.

Thanks be to God Brother Eli, you sure do make the profoundest perspective of a seemingly simple matter as giving names- very, very important indeed.

  18. I can’t find any words on how to describe this wisdom of God coming from the Bible that you have discussed in this blog Bro. Eli. Thanks be to God. With God’s help I hope that many people just like me will have the opportunity to read your blogs and have understandings regarding the Holy Scriptures which is the Bible.

  19. Thanks to God for creating Bro. Eli, the most sensible preacher of our time and for calling me to serve in the true church, the Church of God. To God be the glory!

God bless you Bro. Eli and may your life be longger so you can continue to preach the word of God.

  20. First of all, thank you Our Father in Heaven!
Second, thank you brother Eli Soriano for the topic you’ve shared… If only my family new about it earlier I would not have a name of Suzette which I really don’t know what it means.. Maybe someday if I will become a mother, I’ll definitely name my child based on the Bible.. Hoping that there will be more topics that could help me and remind me… through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen!

  21. What a wisdom from God!!! I”m very sorry Brother Eli for using this portion to ask you this few questions:

    1. Lord Jesus Christ was mentioned as the power and wisdom of God and Apostle John also mentioned that nothing was made that was made if not by Him. My first question Brother Eli is this, Does God use Jesus Christ in every things He do since He is the power of God? Does the power mentioned by Apostle Paul was the entire power of God and that is our Lord Jesus Christ? I know that the Father has the power over TIME but other than that…Does all His power mean to our Lord Brother Eli?

    2. In Genesis 2:9 God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food even the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. In Gen. 2:16-17, He commanded the man not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil only but not on the tree of life. Is there any possibility that Adam ate the fruit of the tree of life prior to their sinning? the verse seems to say that God allowed them to eat of the tree of life and if ever they eat the fruit thereof prior to their sinning, does this mean that they will possibly exist everlasting with flesh and bones as written in Gen.3:22?

    Thank you Brother Eli…

  22. I think this preacher should be Obama’s spiritual adviser, If Obama wins the election, this preacher has a lot of wisdom to tell! I am very amazed of his post and I feel something that I can not explain I think its the joy I’ve felt in my heart knowing that there is still a man existing in this world that speaks a lot of a sense.

  23. Sometimes, people doesn’t give much consideration on simple things… “it’s just a name,” some might say. But still, little and simple things always matters.

Thanks be to God,we have Bro. Eli to discuss all these wisdoms to us.🙂

  24. After reading this blog of yours, Bro Eli, I suddenly had the urge to change my name to Barack.

This is absolutely beautiful, mind-blowing, and most of all, incredibly Biblical.

Names are, indeed, quite important. Now I know why I’m not a Maria.

  25. After reading this blog of yours, Bro Eli, I suddenly had the urge to change my name to Barack.

  26. Great blog.

From what I read, Bro. Eli didn’t say he’s in favor of any political candidate in the U.S. His main point is regarding importance of names, what’s in a name, and more on NAMES. (Not politics)

So it doesn’t follow that he’s supporting any candidate.

    may God bless us.

  27. wow! i have learned a lot of things about biblical names and their meanings, and who really is the foundation of the Church, the Church of God.. without controversy, it is not St. Peter as what the catholics are saying…… only God given wisdom can explain this…

Glory to God!!! Praise HIS name!!!

thank God for the wisdom of bro eli. and thank God for bro eli…..

  28. “I hope I have shared a little knowledge with this article”. I dont think so. Reading this article thought me a lot of things in different areas of life. And I really like it from start to finished. More power!!!

  29. Thanks be to God.

I 120% go with Bro. yoJoe.

I agree also with Charle’s response.

He is my son… and I’m very proud to be his Dad!!!

My family and I missed you a lot, Bro. Eli.

    dominik

  30. “I think this preacher should be Obama’s spiritual adviser…”

    I firmly agree.

If I were an official running for a higher position in the government and I got to know Bro. Eli Soriano, I will definitely request for him to be my personal adviser… not just spiritual…

On the other hand, this is only true to such person who really seeks to be the servant of the people, an official who sincerely offering himself/herself to be a humble servant to all, regardless of race or status.

About the meaning of the name…

I am truly amazed to know it first from Bro. Eli…
well, it’s not that surprising though because we always expect wondrous mystery/ies from the Holy Scriptures be unveiled to us by the only sensible preacher of God in this time…

We just hope that Barack, my favorite US presidentiable, lives by the biblical meaning of his name.

…a serious man, a great fighter for the cause of justice in Israel. Hebrews 11:32-34…

… a serious fighter for the cause of justice to the world… we hope…

Since the U.S. is indeed the controller of many big changes in the history of the world, we pray that if God would bless him, Barack, with the position, he would see into the justice system that at this point in some parts of the world has been shattered by filthy marks caused by grievous people… especially in the Philippines!

On the contrary, If Barack will be blessed so to speak of the position, he will be the first black American president in the history of America… (am I right?)

I just hope that it won’t be a funny idea to the whites!!!

“If you don’t want to respect the person, respect the authority vested on him.”

It remains a wonder to some that God has chosen someone like Bro. Eli Soriano to unleash the mysteries behind the scriptures!

    To me, it’s no longer…

  31. Amazing!! What a wonderful blessing to us from our GOD this kind of wisdom. No one could do and give this kind of knowledge only Bro. Eli make it with the help of GOD…

Thanks be to GOD from His unspeakable gifts.

  32. Br. Eli, does the name of a person a great factor on what he will become in the future, or will it affect him? for example, if i were named Lazarus, will i suffer much too in this world and be with God in the next life? You may say I’m absurd but as far as I’ve heard, there aren’t persons who belong to the reigning/richest class named after a biblical character. That is all. Thank you for this wonderful piece of knowledge you have shared to us. I hope I’d hear from you soon. We miss you so much Brother Eli. :((

  33. Name is important.

A good name is better than precious ointment and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

    Ecclesiastes 7:1

  34. THanks be to God for HIS unspeakable Gift!!!!!
To God be the Glory for the SEER that holds the Key of the scriptures……

  35. Never have i heard about the meaning of the name Barack elsewhere. This is one for the books!

I love Bro Eli! =) Am learning so much from him. Thanks be to God!

  36. Fantastic!

I’ve learned so much from this post. Thanks be to God for giving us a leader who’s name has a biblical significance.

ELISEO (Tagalog of Elisha) = in Hebrew theophory means “MY GOD IS SALVATION” or “SALVATION OF GOD”

  37. I am very happy reading this article because from the start of the campaign who is the standard bearer for Democrats I already choose Barack Obama rather than Hilary Clinton. Although I am not an American citizen, however it’s nice to be acquainted with the political situation of America.

I read the transcription of the previous speech of Barack Obama before he became a Senator, it sounds coincide of what Bro Eli explain in this blog. I have a got feeling that the name Barack will make it to be the next President of America. Thanks Bro. Eli for this very enlightening knowledge you shared to us. But the most important thing with this blog, is the spiritual values that everyone must be educate in choosing the name.

  38. It is really an interesting article. Honestly, as a member of the Church of God International, I am really proud to have a pritcher like Bro. Eli. However, I don’t know how to invite my friends especially from other country to go to our websites. But now, I found an article that could get their interest.

    To God be the glory

  39. Brother Eli is the best. I can contest all of the preachers around the world. I truly believe no one can beat brother Eli. Nobody can put him to shame! Thanks be to God! To HIM is the glory forever and ever, amen!

  40. Brother Eli, I and my wife is expecting a baby. Can you suggest a name for our baby? We don’t know yet if it’s a boy or a girl. Can you suggest a name for both? =) Thank you! =)

  41. i am continuously learning from “Ingkong”…reading his articles increase my knowldege on Biblical and Political personalities..

i thank God for giving us Bro Eli, a true God-sent Preacher of our times.

  42. To GOD be the glory!
This is my first time to read Bro Eli’s article in this site it’s truly fantastic! I hope more people find time to read some of his article. i’m glad i found this man. He is truly God-sent Peacher of our time.

  43. Overflowing wisdom!!!
I was just curious about the name “Barack” and learned more than that -how Catholics were mislead, meaning of other names in the Bible, the power of the name of God, etc…

  44. Wow! Bravo!!! We’re very grateful to God for giving us Bro. Eli…. napaka SENSIBLE talaga… Thanks be to God…. Imagine, we’ll still learn even in our Names… Thanks for my parents for giving me a good name…. More power Bro. Eli… May you be safe always with God’s help….

  45. I’m from Kenya, and I find this debate interesting.as you may know both names Barack and Obama originate from this part of the world. The name Barack,in Swahili language a national language of Kenya means one who is blessed, and the name Obama may mean in Luo,the language of Obama’s father one who has rickets.if you were to translate it directly with his theme of change in mind, Then Barack Obama would simply mean “blessed to change or straighten dis-odered feet”or anointed feet.good time everybody.

  46. Great insight. Please do not take this article as a campaign for Obama’s camp. Bro Eli is obviously explaining the meaning of the name but he did not say any statement favoring the other party. We have to read bro. Eli’s article for all its worth just like we read the bible for all its worth.
    God Bless!

  47. Mr. President Barack Obama,

  48. Brod. eli, you are a truly GOD messenger, May you be safe always with God’s help…( sana makabalik kana sa Pilipinas para makita namin kayu ng personal…

  49. no matter what the people say, I will believe God’s word more than man’s word. Why I am saying this? Simply because I just want to tell the world that all imputations uttered to bro Eli are all lies. My basis is the Holy Scripture. God said in Daniel 12:9-10 “and He said, Go thy way Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.” It is more wise to believe God’s word, that’s why it is very safe to conclude Bro Eli is the man sent by God to tell the truth all over the globe or even in the principalities and powers in heavenly places. Bro Eli, continue your Godly works…we, sorsogenos support you in all ways permits by God.

  50. A reality, very logical. Hope you ‘ll have a one on one talk with none other than Mr. Obama and next is to be one of his consultants.

  51. glory be to the Father, the Lord almighty. I’ve been watching you since my high school days, and in God’s greatness, I am now under doctrination (23th days). I hope that somehow people realize the truth behind true… long live bro. Eli Soriano and thanks be to God!

  52. one of the many reasons why this blog was recently selected as “most educational to follow”. I hope there is a category that says “most educational & biblical to follow”.

  53. First of All, i want to thank God for his Blessing and mercy to us!

And I want to Congratulate you (Bro.Eli) for your Blog to be the No.1 for the category of the most Educational Blog to follow!

Like I learn to you, ^_^

God Knew The Heart of All his Being.

    To God Be The Glory!!!

  54. what is the name of God in the bible?
why is it that many preachers dont mention the name of God.
some say no one knows the real spelling or pronoucement and afraid of mentioning it because of fear of adding or taking out anything from the bible is prohibited by god
but they are using names of characters in the bible not fearing they maybe guilty of adding or taking anything from the bible
now what is the name of God?
    we should use it everyday!
so that every people may know God!
we should not be afraid of revealing the name of God
God is a person, therefore He has a name so as every animals angels things.

    • My father has a name, his name is Patricio… But I don’t call him in his proper name. I address him as father, papa, daddy, sort of that as a sign of respect.

Even if I know God’s proper name, I’d rather not call my God in his proper name. I’ll call him Father or God.

Isn’t it sweeter if your wife/husband calls you “honey, darling, sweety, love, sugar, or anything like that” rather than your proper name?

  55. Well if “Barak” is in one of your holy books then fine, but Barack Obama itself is a disgusting mortal. Obama will destroy the fundamentals of the United States and principles of capitalism. Nevertheless, Eli, this is very informative

  56. As the saying goes “the sweetest thing to a man’s ear is to call him by his name. But before anything else I would like to thank Bro. Eli for his tireless efforts in giving his best for humankind and things like this..I also thank my parents for my name.I am surname Gabriel and my name is Jerry Elias .All is biblical. If this is coincidental then it must be fantastic but i realize it must be biblical. Thanks be to God for His is the Glory forever.
